Protein intermediate states

In addition to the native state, complex proteins are capable of adopting a variety of partially folded intermediate states. These states may arise as a consequence of mutation, vectorial translation, post-translational modification, or simply conformational flexibility. The existence of such intermediates has significant implications for protein function, stability, aggregation, and evolution. My focus is on studying the properties of intermediates across a range of experimental scales, from atomistic simulations to biochemically defined in vitro systems, to whole organisms.
